Sarkuysan was established in 1972 conjointly by entrepreneurs, mainly consisting of the gold dealers and jewellers from the Covered Bazaar, an important commercial centre of Turkey. The company derives its name from the first syllables of its founders' professions (SARraf: gold dealer; KUYumcu: jeweller; SANatkar: artist.

The company enjoys a special place in the history of Turkish industrialization thanks to its success as the first wholly publicly owned company in the country.

Erected on the premises of a total area of 130.000 m2 with 67.000 m2 of covered area, the works, whose annual production capacity has now reached 200.000 tonnes/year from the initial capacity of 10.000 tonnes/year, produces electrolytic copper products, copper tube and bus bar. Sarkuysan has TS EN ISO 9001 and ISO/TS 16949 Quality Management System Certificates ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Certificate and OHSAS 18001 Occupational Health and Safety Managemet System Certificate for all its activities and uses "sks" as its trademark for its products that meet the considerable part of domestic demand and half of its production is exported to approximately 50 countries in 5 continents.

The company has approximately 562 employees and 80% of the workers are high-school and vocational school graduates, who also participate intensive training programs every year.

While the company manufactures a considerable part of the machinery and equipment used in the production process, it has also a power generation plant which generates electricity vital for the smooth operation of the works. The company enjoys an accumulation of information and know-how for more than 30 years which is sold in the international markets.

Sarkuysan is a group of companies consisting of SARMAKİNA A.Ş., engaged in machine and spare parts design and manufacture including the field of environmental protection technologies, DEMİSAŞ A.Ş., active in the field of gray and nodular cast iron parts for the automotive and machinery manufacturing industry, SARDA A.Ş., marketing and sales company of Sarkuysan. For the purpose of direct marketing of its products in the export markets, Sarkuysan has a branch in Italy and a sales and marketing subsidiary, SARK-USA, established in 2002 in the USA. The company has also works in the Aegean Free Zone, where high value added products are manufactured for export purposes.

Sarkuysan realises important social projects in line with the corporate image of a socially responsible entity including the following: Gebze SARKUYSAN High-School with 33 class-rooms, indoor sports hall, science, language and IT labs; scholarships regularly awarded to higher education students; SARKUYSAN Mosque, constructed in Ottoman architectural tradition; the restoration of the historical Frej Inn, currently used as the company headquarters, which is an important building for the cultural heritage of the country; sports activities including the Sarkuysan table tennis team, which represented the country in the European Cup Winners' Championship several times, tree planting activities in Gebze region and the traditional allocation of the funds set aside for New Year promotional gifts to the purchase of much needed medical equipment to be donated to hospitals.
